A polycationic and hydrophobic polymer protective layer for Li metal is developed by a scalable tape-casting method, described by Zhen Li, Yunhui Huang, and co-workers in article number 2007428. Steady Li plating/stripping in commercial carbonate electrolyte can be achieved under a high areal capacity of 10 mAh cm−2 with Li utilization efficiency up to 51.6%. The modified Li also shows unaffected performance after exposure to ambient air or contact with water.
